Just for Fun! Enneagram Cocktails!
— By Gail Cousins, EANT Treasurer, and Certified Teacher in the Narrative Tradition
TYPE 1: The Perfect Martini
Ice. Lots of it.
Properly chilled, stemmed, Martini glasses properly chilled means your glasses should be in the freezer for a minimum of one hour prior to making the Martini. To avoid confusion, or disaster, said glasses should have been left in the freezer (permanently).
A light vermouth, preferably Boissiere.
A glass pitcher or metal shaker.
Garnish, be it olives, or lemon peel. These are the only things, garnish-wise, that are permitted. Sure, you can use things like cocktail onions, but then it isn't a martini, now is it? The answer is no. It's a Gibson.
And last, but obviously not least, Gin. Pay attention, dear ones. I said GIN. I did not mention raspberries, chocolate, or anything involving butterscotch. Those drinks may be "martini-like," by virtue of the type of glass in which they're poured, but the similarity ends right there, buster. And don't give me any of this James Bond crap about Vodka. No! That is not a Martini, either. Case closed.
TYPE 2: The "I Don't Know, but She Wants A Screwdriver With a Twist of Orange Peel in an 8-Inch-tall Wine Glass" cocktail. (Ask my friend here what I want...)
TYPE 3: The "First Thing on My List for Tonight"
1. I'll start with a glass of water so I'm hydrated
2. Next, I'll have some of those pretzels so there's food in my stomach.
3. Then I'd like a Manhattan with Canadian Whiskey, two cherries, no orange.
4. Never mind, I'll do it myself.
TYPE 4: The "Feng Shui" (Apple Cider, Cinnamon Schnapps, Brinley's Shipwreck Spiced Rum, served with cinnamon stick and an apple blossom, on an Italian marble coaster. Like the drink I had on that perfect vacation in the Caribbean with Bob…WHY did I break up with him?!
TYPE 5: Beer
TYPE 6: The "I'm Not Sure I Should be Drinking" cocktail. (Diet Coke, or Water. With a straw. Wrapped.)
TYPE 7: 1959 Chateau Lafite Rothschild (In a Waterford Crystal Goblet)
TYPE 8: The 40-oz. Long Island Iced Tea (Lots of Vodka, lots of Tequila, a bunch of Rum, a cup or so of Gin, a generous pour of Triple Sec, some sweet & sour mix, and a little Coke. With a beer chaser. And a New York Strip.)
TYPE 9: The "I Don't Know, You Decide" (Something with Scotch, or maybe Bourbon, actually it's kind of hot so perhaps a Vodka something, and whatever you want to put with it. Or a glass of wine might be nice. Any kind. What's he having?)
