HELP! Enneagram Information Being Deleted from Wikipedia! WRITER WANTED
— By Gerry Fathauer, EANT Past President
WANTED: A certified teacher in the Narrative Tradition to work with the ESNT faculty and EANT Board to coordinate content for postings on Wikipedia's "Enneagram of Personality" page about the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition.
David Daniels and Ingrid Stabb approached the EANT Board recently, to alert us to an apparent systematic removal of Narrative Tradition content from Wikipedia, as well as that of other teachers. The Board has brought this to the attention of the IEA and is planning to work in partnership with the IEA to more consistently monitor the Wikipedia site and report abuses. Here is some of the background provided by David and Ingrid:
"We have been watching the changes on Wikipedia and on numerous occasions an anonymous person has removed important information and replaced it with content heavily weighted toward material from certain teachers. This has been going on for some time, but recently someone went even further and removed all but one of Helen Palmer's books and David Daniels' book from the bibliography-references section of the page.
"Wikipedia has become one of the most important sources of information for the world about the Enneagram, especially for newcomers to the system. When you search "enneagram" on Google, Wikipedia comes up as the 4th search entry and typically users will choose this page over the top-ranked Enneagram Institute pages due the credibility and perceived objectivity of Wikipedia."
"There needs to be: (1) references and material representing the Narrative Tradition; (2) the expansion of references to NT work and authors; (3) a more accurate representation of the Enneagram's history (it didn't begin with Gurdjieff); and (4) updated terminology, not just that of certain teachers. (5) Regular review of the Wikipedia Enneagram of Personality page and re-populating deleted information as needed."
To ensure that accurate information is available on the Narrative Tradition, EANT is seeking a volunteer through whom related content would be coordinated. If you are committed to the Narrative Tradition and have the background and skills to monitor Wikipedia to help us maintain meaningful content, please contact Gerry Fathauer at 480 688 8056, or by email.
